The Ennead of Heliopolis

The Ennead of Heliopolis is the Great or Heliopolitan Ennead: a traditional grouping of nine deities centered on the solar cult of Heliopolis (Egyptian Iunu), one of the major centers of ancient Egyptian theology. In Heliopolitan creation thought, these gods sit at the head of a divine lineage that orders the emergence and continuation of the world.

The English word Ennead comes from Greek enneás (“nine”), echoing the Egyptian term Pesedjet (“the Nine”), the usual name for this council of gods.
